-----» My hobbies include drawing, coloring, writing, surfing the web, chatting, watching tv and movies, listening to way to much music, reading, working on this dang website, and tons of other stuff that compete for my time.

-----» I've been interested in Egypt since.... um... God I cant even remember. I guess you'd call it more of an obsession. As a child mummies, pyramids, and queens always drew me, teachers got frustrated because every report I studied Egypt and I bet I was the only middle schooler that could identify all the major gods, and fairy tales of Egypt in History class. Many have sworn it's past life regression.

The Creation

*Booming voice* In the beginning there was darkness and Nefret was empty and without form. Then Laura put pencil to paper and drew, and when she was done she saw that it was good.*normal voice returns*  Ok, so it didn't happen quite that way! I believe it all started about 2 years ago in a drug store. *looks away dreamily* I was just browsing through the hair color section and saw a color called "Egyptian Plum" made by Clairol. The thought hit me in the head like a ton 'o bricks, 'draw an Egyptian woman with plum colored hair!' The thought was all consuming until I actually finished. Little did I know there would be more to come! I drew another, and another picture of this nameless woman. Then the story started to evolve. I had always been secretly fanatical about Mozenrath, so why not make her his assistant!? And so the woman had a home, and a friend, but she still didn't have a name. She was dubbed one afternoon while playing a computer game called  Ancient Lands. I choose a young Egyptian girl as my guide on a virtual tour. The tour started off like this "Hi, my name it Nefret, priestess of Isis." She later mention "My name means the beautiful one!" I was dumbstruck! What a great name! And the nickname possibility was cool to, Nef! So Nefret Anuxanamoon (the last name is a real mystery huh?) was truly born! Since then I found another "Nefret" in another computer game and one in a book called The Last Camel Died at Noon. I later started to think about the whole priestess thing, Nefret should be a priestess. But I didn't want her to serve Isis, it sounded to generic and predictable. So I chose my favorite Egyptian goddess, Hathor! The story evolved from there, becoming increasingly more complex. The rest, as they say, is history!

FAQ

Q: Ok, why is Nefret's history changing out of the blue all the time?
A: because it's a work in progress! I mean do you have YOUR history all planned out? No! Nefret is an endearing character because I never know what she'll be doing next!

Q: "Why doesn't Nefret look very Egyptian most of the time?"
A: Nef's style is more Arab than Egyptian. This is because she only took a few robes from her temple and most of her clothes were bought for her by Mozenrath in marketplaces around the middle east, Asia, and parts of Africa. Also she doesn't wear the typical Egyptian plated wig. She did while in the temple, but now that she's with Mozenrath she finds it too hot and uncomfortable to be worthwhile.

Q: "Why Mozenrath?"
A: In a nut shell he's handsome, clever, dark, and deadly! I have said it before and will say again, lets face it, evil is sexy!

Q: "Is Nefret your Mary Sue?"
A: yes probably. Though I've never presented her as perfect in anyways, far from it. Nefret is pretty flawed if ya think about it.

Q: "Why is there such hatred between Xerxes and Nefret?"
A: Simple, Xerxes hates Nefret because she is competition for his master's attention. Come on who would you pay more attention to, Nefret or the ugly stupid eel? I rest my case! Xerxes has hated Nefret since he first saw her, his exact word when they meet  were "Why you bring back this pious tramp?"  Nefret really doesn't care who Mozenrath pays more attention too. She simply hates Xerxes because he hates her.

Creation of the Den!

Nefret's Den of Black Sand began it's humble beings as a simple gallery page in my studio site Next Planet Over. However as Nefret developed as a major character  her site expanded into a nice but small subsite with a gallery, profile page, and link to the library until her domain took over my website until Next Planet Over was half considered the subsite Of Nefret's Den!!! So Nefret has carved herself a nice little niche in cyberspace. However she did come to share it when Chroias moved in. Chroias, having trouble creating her own site and struggling to get others to post her work, found Nef and made the Den a makeshift home for her stories, and some art (I wish she'd send more *Puppy dog eyes* ). So many thanks to all her contributions to the Den, and Nef is less lonely now ^_^
